Some team dogs

Joanne Reid, a Police Sgt and Gordon Gregory, an Outdoor Instructor are the two members shown here alongwith a Strathclyde Police officer on board Strathclyde Police's Marine Unit vessel "Strathclyde" on the River Clyde. They are discussing how to lower search dogs onto the boat from the quayside at Greenock using techniques we use when also working with helicopters (and rescuing dogs etc).

Joanne Reid and Gigha. Joanne is a Detective Sergeant in Strathclyde Police and lives in the Falkirk area.

Gigha is a tri-colour Border Collie who has been qualified since the late 1990s. Now 12 yrs old (2008) she has worked at many incidents with Joanne including the Stockline factory collapse.

Iain Ballantyne and Glen. Iain is a Director of a joinery firm and lives in Carronshore, nr Falkirk.

Glen is a Border Collie and has been qualifed since 2000. He is a son of Meg, another search dog. Glen is qualified for both Open Area and Collapsed Structure work.

Iain and Glen have operated at numerous incidents including the Stockline factory collapse in Glasgow.

 

Glen is now 7 yrs old (2008)

Stuart Ballantyne and Mitch. Stuart is a Sergeant in Central Scotland Police and lives in the Falkirk area.

Mitch first qualifed in October 2006 and is qualified for Open Area and Collapsed Structure work. He is 3 yrs old (2008).

Stuart's former search dog Meg was formerly qualified with SARDA as a Grade 5 search dog for mountain work and was qualified for open area and collapsed structure work.

As a team they worked at over 70 call-outs and these included Stockline. Meg retired in October 2007, aged 13 yrs old - and only because her hearing went.

Jeff Smith and Cono. Jeff is a painter & decorator and lives in the Fife fishing village of Kincardine.

Cono is a Border Collie who successfully passed her first Open Area assessments in October 2006.

Cono passed her NUSARDG Collpased Structure Assessments in March 2008.


Jeff's former life in the military, combined with his mountaineering expertise benefits the team immensely.

Gayle Patrick and Taz are currently undergoing training to become a search dog team.
