12 May 2007 - Training with Fire & Rescue Service

On the morning of Sat 12th May, two handlers and a buddy attended Alloa Fire Station to participate in some joint training with the Blue Watch USAR team. Three dogs and personnel were winched up the tower and down again - the older dogs took this in their stride but the younger one - Mitch, was a bit twitchy on the ropes - the very reason we do such training - to get the dogs used to such means of deployment so that on a real search they won't be put off their stride.

Thereafter, Mitch was used to good effect in the BA building which has been converted to a confined space rescue area. He searched for and located a firefighter who had been asked to conceal himself anywhere in the building.

Outside, Gigha demonstrated her skills in searching around numerous accident damaged cars and stacks of timber for a concealed casualty, which she found.

Many thanks to Blue Watch for their hospitality.
