23 Jul 2006 - MRI Harbour Festival, Stonehaven

Well, the dogs didn't wuite know what to make of it - parading through Stonehavne behind a Pipe Band and a group of Vikings from Shetland!

The sun was out, the harbour was done up with flags and full of colour and the bay looked fabulous for the annual Maritime Rescue Institute SAR Harbour Day at Stonehaven on the north east coast of Scotland.

MRI SAR provide a voluntary SAR service using their own fleet of lifeboats on the North Sea and are a declared resource of HM Coastguard.

Trossachs SAR dogs put on a display with MRI SAR and HM Coastguard whereby The MRI SAR crew of MRI 42 took dog Gigha and handler Joanne Reid, with paramedic Danny Kerr into the harbour, they transferred onto MRI 12 - an inflatable and were taken across the harbour to the shore where Gigha commenced a search for a missing person. Gigha found of course and Danny provided a high level of medical aid. HM Coastguard set up a rope rescue system and lowered a member and a stretcher down the cliff. Thier staff and Trossachs personnel got the casualty (now a manikin) onto the stretcher and raised him up the cliff face.

A great day out for all the family - see you there next August!
