4 January 2005 - Sheep rescue

Members attended a volcanic plug called Dunglass nr to Blanefield, Campsie Fells to attempt the rescue of a sheep stuck on crags for several days. Members worked in freezing temperatures and gale force winds for a few hours on a particularly challenging rescue effort, as we have done there several times before. On this occasion however, the sheep slipped of its very narrow ledge and fell to its death, much to our disappointment.

 

 

24 Feb and 1 March 2005 - missing person search at Hull

Seven members and two search dogs attended nr to Beverley, Hull to assist Humberside Police in two days searching extensive woodland nr to Hull for the missing woman Joanne Nelson.

The team and police officers formed line searches through woodland, while dogs were used to search other dense woodland areas.

 

 

1 April 2005 - Missing child, Louth in Lincolnshire

Two team dog handlers and buddy were on stand-by to assist Louth SAR Dogs re a search for a 3 yr old child in Skegness. TSART was engaged in a joint training weekend with Louth at the time. Thankfully the child was found soon after the call was made.

 

 

10 April 2005 - House collapse, Northumberland

Team was alerted to a house collapse at Shilbottle, nr Alnwick, Northumberland. Dogs placed on stand-by but thankfully Northumberland Fire & Rescue located the occupants very quickly. Our attendance time would have been 90 mins by road unless with Police escort or helo transport by SAR helo.

 

 

27 April 2005 - Injured fell runner

About 8pm on the evening of 27 April 2005, ten members attended at the boulder field area on Auchineden Hill, Blanefield and evacuated, by stretcher, a 44 yr old man who had sustained a suspected fracture to his right ankle. He had been a front runner in the annual Whangie Whizz Hill Race.

First time the team had used a new set of vacuum splints 'in anger' - but to good effect.

The casualty was carried off hill to Queen's View car park on the

A809 Glasgow Drymen Road
. He was taken to Stirling Royal Infirmary.

A fracture of the right Fibula was confirmed and the casualty's ankle placed in plaster.

June 2005 – West Highland Way Race

Over the course of the two days of the race, where the weather turned very cold and wet, we dealt with several incidents.

A report of a runner unwell nr to the north end of Loch Lomond - with resources deployed by boat to assist. Thankfully a false alarm.

Additionally, some mildly hypothermic runners; blisters, grazes and one unconscious casualty.
