2004 Incidents

2 May 2004 – Garelochhead Military Marches

The team assisted military medics with first-aid provision for the marches of 40Km and 25Km in the Garelochhead area on 1st & 2nd May. We dealt with 57 casualties over the two days, as well as providing first-aid to three casualties from two separate RTAs near to our medic posts.

Team members were well and truly exhausted after two days of dealing with so many casualties and unfortunately we virtually exhausted our first-aid kit supplies.

12 May 2004 - Stockline Plastics Factory collapse

About 1.30pm on 11 May 2004, the team responded as part of the NUSARDG deployment to the factory collapse in Glasgow . Four search dogs and fifteen team personnel were involved in the effort to search for people trapped in the debris. The team was stood down at 3pm next day, having worked constantly from arrival.

June 2004 – West Highland Way Race

Trossachs SAR, with excellent assistance from members of Caithness and Sutherland Search Team and Emergency Search Dogs provided first-aid cover for this annual race for the third year running. 88 runners started the race at Milngavie and most ran all the way to Fort William . Despite a horrendous weather forecast, the actual weather proved ideal - slightly cold but mainly dry.

A few runners required minor first-aid en route.

Well done to all who competed, as well as everyone else who assisted.
Thanks also to the Inversnaid Hotel and the Kingshouse Hotel for the warm welcome from their staff and assistance with provision of space for our teams.

16 August 2004 - Boscastle

Trossachs SAR was on stand-by in the early hours of Tuesday 16 Aug in case its NUSARDG search dogs and personnel were required for the landslide in Boscastle. We understood that colleagues from other NUSARDG groups in Wales and England were en-route. However, we were not required there.

17 August 2004 – Lochearnhead

Shortly after 6.30pm on Wed 17 Aug we were asked by the Fire Brigade to assemble and be on stand-by in case our NUSARDG search dogs and personnel were required at the landslide incidents at Lochearnhead - about 25 miles from our base at Stirling. Fifteen personnel and four search dogs responded and assembled at MOD Forthside - the plan being that if required we could be airlifted from there by helicopter. Other team personnel could follow up by road in our Land Rover if required. Thankfully all motorists were accounted for in the end and we were stood down at 9.30pm.
