2003 Incidents

4 May 2003 – Garelochhead Military Marches

The team has just returned from the event where we assisted the military medical teams. Altogether, our own medics treated dozens of casualties - blisters for the most part - no serious injuries - and a thoroughly enjoyable event - thanks for the accommodation and food? And thanks to the officers and other ranks for making us welcome!

6 June 2003 -  The rescue of 2 dogs

On the morning of Fri 6 June 2003 we assisted some mariners who were unable to get their two dogs ashore from their boat onto dry land at James Watt Harbour , Greenock as the harbour has vertical walls with no stone steps or ramps - only vertical ladders!

Also, the tide was low so there was quite a height difference between the harbour wall footway and the pontoon.

By securing both dogs into helicopter winching harnesses and rigging up a rope lifting system we successfully managed to raise Mirk and Gael from the pontoon up onto the walkway.

Well done to both dogs for their bravery! Thanks Ann for your donation and thanks Pam for your kind comments.

June 2003 - West Highland Way Race

The Team provided first aid cover for the UK's most arduous cross country long distance race by having bases on Loch Lomondside. Only a few minor injuries were sustained by runners.

11 September 2003 – Mugdock Country Park

The team was placed on stand-by on the evening of 11 Sept for a next day search for a missing man at Mugdock Country Park - 10 personnel and 4 search dogs were available for the next day search however the man was found late that evening and we were stood down.

12 October 2003 – Gartmore

The team was on stand-by for a search for Girl Guides on 5th October in the Gartmore Forest area - luckily all turned up while the phone around was being made.
